Docs Stop WordPress form spam without CAPTCHAs

Filter form spam with Akismet

Quarantine spam form submissions in the inbox without emailing you or firing webhooks.

The problem

Sophisticated spam can look like a real contact message. You want filtering that learns from the WordPress spam network—without showing visitors a CAPTCHA.

The solution

When Akismet is enabled, Sobi Forms sends submission content for spam scoring. Flagged entries go to the Spam view in the inbox. Admin emails and webhooks are skipped. Visitors still see a normal success message (discreet handling).

How to enable it

  1. Install and configure the official Akismet plugin (API key required).
  2. Open Sobi Forms → Settings → Spam protection.
  3. Under Akismet, turn on Enable Akismet.
  4. Save settings.

If Akismet is missing or unconfigured, Sobi Forms shows a link to install or set up the API key.

What happens to spam

  • Saved in the inbox with Spam status
  • No notification email
  • No webhook
  • Visitor still gets the success UI (or redirect)

You can review, mark as not spam, or delete from the Spam view.

Privacy note

When enabled, form content, name, email, browser details, and the visitor IP may be sent to Automattic for scoring. Mention Akismet in your site Privacy Policy.
