The problem
Long forms ask for everything up front. Business-only fields confuse consumers. Optional follow-ups clutter the canvas. Visitors abandon forms that feel irrelevant.
The solution
Sobi Forms includes conditional logic on the free plugin. Open any field’s settings (gear icon) and enable Show only when… to reveal that field (or a Title / Paragraph block) based on earlier answers.
Examples:
- Show Company name only when Are you a business? is Yes
- Reveal extra options when a consent checkbox is checked
- Ask for guest details only when Number of guests is greater than 2
Rules update instantly for visitors. On submit, the server re-checks visibility and does not store or forward answers from hidden fields — inbox, emails, webhooks, Brevo, and Mailchimp stay clean.
How to configure it
- Open the form in the builder.
- Click the gear on the field (or layout block) you want to show conditionally.
- Enable Show only when….
- Add one or more conditions (up to five per field).
- If you have two or more rules, choose Match all or Match any.
- Save the form and test on the front-end.
A branch icon on the canvas marks fields that already have visibility rules.
Operators
Common matches: equals, not equals, is empty, is not empty, and choice selections.
Number fields also support comparisons: greater than, greater than or equal, less than, less than or equal.
Multi-step forms
Conditional logic works with multi-step forms. A field can only depend on answers from the same step or an earlier step — not from steps the visitor has not reached yet.
Tips
- Keep the controlling field above the conditional field on the canvas (and earlier in the step order).
- Hidden required fields are not enforced until they become visible.
- Existing forms stay unchanged until you add Show only when… rules.
- For CRM sync gated by a newsletter checkbox, see also Only add to list if on Brevo and Mailchimp automations (separate from field visibility).
