The problem
You built a form on staging (or a client site) and need the same fields on production. Rebuilding every field, option, and step by hand is slow and error-prone.
The solution
Sobi Forms can export a form as JSON and import that file on another site. The transfer covers the form structure—title and fields (including options, layout, multi-step, and conditionals). Site-specific settings stay on each site.
What is included
Exported / imported:
- Form title
- Fields and layout (types, labels, options, columns, steps, conditionals, and other field settings)
Not included (configure again on the destination site):
- After-submit settings (emails, redirect, inbox)
- Automations (webhooks, Brevo, Mailchimp)
- Availability limits, SMTP routing, and other site settings
- Submissions (use submission exports for data)
Export a form
- Open Sobi Forms → Forms.
- In the row for the form you want, click Export.
- Your browser downloads a
.jsonfile named after the form slug (for examplecontact.json).
You need an administrator account (manage_options).
Import on another site
- On the destination WordPress site, install and activate Sobi Forms.
- Open Sobi Forms → Forms.
- Click Import (next to Add New).
- Choose the
.jsonfile and upload it. - Sobi Forms creates a new form and opens it in the builder so you can review fields and set emails, automations, and embed settings.
If a form with the same title already exists, the imported title gets a (Imported) suffix. The slug is always regenerated for the new site.
Tips
- Export / import is for form definitions, not inbox rows. For leads and backups, use Export form submissions.
- After import, reconfigure After submit and Automations—API keys and webhook URLs are never copied in the JSON.
- Max import size is 512 KB and the file must be valid JSON from Sobi Forms.
- Keep both sites on a recent Sobi Forms version so the schema stays compatible.
